Latamber


Latamber is a town and Union council of Karak District in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwaprovince of Pakistan. It is an important town in the district of Karak and is located 29 kilometres to the east of Bannu at 33°6'33N 70°52'3E.

Location [edit]

Latamber located in the district of Karak in the province of Khyber-Pashtunkhwa in the north-west of Pakistan. To the north and north-east are the Khattak hills, to the west is the town of Bannu, the Thall desert in to the south and to the east is the town of Karak. Latamber is located approximately 170 kilometers south of the provincial capital Peshawar and 29 kilometers to the east of Bannu. It is located at an elevation of 1403 feet above sea level at a latitude of 33.1 degrees North and longitude of 70.1 degrees East.

Demographics [edit]

The population of Latamber is about 60,000 people and the population of Latamber union council (which includes many small villages along with main Latamber town) is about 120,000 people. Other villages in Latamber union council include Warana, Mandawa, Kamali Banda, Tor Adam Banda, Adam Banda, Wali Khan Banda, Sharif Sala and Soor Dag.

Tribes [edit]

The majority of residents belong to the Khattak tribe which settled the area beginning during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.Other minor tribes include Qazi, Paracha, Bhittani and Qurishi.

Notable buildings [edit]

Dak Bangaloo located near police station is a historical building, which reminds us of the colonial past of the town

Education [edit]

Government High School Latamber is one of the earliest established educational institutes in the district having been established in 1940. Government Middle School Latamber is also an historical institution; it is established in a building which was earlier a Hindu temple. There are numerous public and private schools and also a Degree College for Boys. A Girl's Degree College has been approved by the provincial government but ANP sold it on MPA.

Historical places [edit]

Shahedan Baba is a famous picnic point, it is situated at the distance of 6 km from Latamber town. It is situated in between the Spinghar hills and is popular with the youth of Latamber. Shaheed Neekuh is a famous tomb on the banks of Latamber nalla, approximately 1.5 km south of Latamber town.
Latamber has continental weather and with extreme temperatures in both in the summer and winter.
Another old building is of DAK BANGLOW, with its own history. It was built by the British Government as a Rest House for Dignitaries. It is still in very good condition although having no officials' care and proper maintenance. And a very old small Dam named " Malmasti Gandi" has its own history. It had been built in one night by Mulla Mast Neeka with the help of Gens.
Masha Daba and Seerri Khazay were the very known resources of water in the very old ages for all Latamber town.
Khawas welfare Society (KWS) Latamber is non Political and non Governmental Organization.
